Maxfield Parrish was born 1870 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Parrish began drawing for his own amusement early in his life.
Maxfield Parrish is a highly recognized name in American art history. He became famous for his unique style and deep, rich colors, particularly his blue tones. Parrish painted a series of landscape scenes exclusively for Brown & Bigelow in 1934. They were so well received that he continued painting them for three decades. Parrish’s work was appreciated immensely during his own lifetime. His meticulous and time-consuming technique gave his landscapes a three-dimensional quality that has never been imitated. His art has appeared in books, magazines, posters, advertisements, calendars and more.
Parrish continued painting until he was about 90 years old and died at age 96.
